What everyone needs to know is that medications are not something that you can play with. They are synthetic product that has variety of side effects on the organism if it is not taken as recommended.

The medications that doctor prescribes all have instructions for use. It is well described when you should take them, how much to take and what kind of food you need during the treatment. You need to be aware of all that because mixing medication with food may cause serious damages to your health.

Bronchial spasmolytic

These group of medication treats asthma, bronchitis, and other lung diseases. Theophylline and albuterol are most common medication of this group. If you are using some of these medication stay away from coffee and food and drinks that contains caffeine. These medications work by stimulating the nervous system and in combination with coffee they may cause anxiety and nervousness. Caffeine can also increase the toxic properties of theophylline. You should also lower intake of fats and fatty food because it can increase the biological availability if this drug and it may cause overdosing. Medication for lowering LDL cholesterol

This group of medication works to remove the level of LDL cholesterol in the blood. Some of the medication is atorvastatin, fluvastin, lovastin, etc.

If you are using some of these medications avoid grapefruit. This fruit can cause sudden rise of absorption of this medication and cause overdose as well as increase the risk of intensified side effects. If you drink one tablet with grapefruit it may have equal dose as when you take 20 tablets with a glass of water. If you are using some of these pills also stay away from lime, orange and other sour fruits.

Antihypertensive medication

This is a group of medication that treats heart and kidney problems. Some of the pills are captopril, enalapril, ramipril. If you are using this kind of medication you need to avoid potassium rich food such as banana, potato, spinach, soy beans. These medication increase the level of potassium in the blood and it may cause arrhythmia and dyspnea.

Anti-arrhythmic medication

This is a group of medication that is treating heart problems. If you use them stay away from liquorice, because this combination can cause problems with heart rate and also heart attack. Food that is rich in fiber can lower the efficiency of this group of medication and eat it at least 2 hours before or after you took the medication.

 Medication that treat blood cloths and dissolve the blood

Warfarin is one of most common medication of this group. If you are using them don’t eat food such as cranberry garlic, ginger, paprika, cinnamon, turmeric. These are foods that have the ability to dilute the blood and in combination with this medication can cause bleeding. Vitamin K rich foods can lower the efficiency of the medication so stay away from spinach, broccoli, cabbage and other vitamin K rich foods.

Hormones of thyroid gland medication

Levothyroxine is one remedy from this group. Don’t combine them with soy beans, chestnuts and other food rich in dietary fiber. These foods lower the effect of this group of medication.

Antibiotics

If you use antibiotics don’t use dairy products. These medication form a calcium compounds that is hard to secret and is present in dairy products. This can lead to sudden lowering of the efficiency of the antibiotics

Pain medication

This is a group of medication that treats headaches and other pain and inflammations, the most famous is ibuprofen.  Carbonated drinks should not be mixed with this kind of medication because carbon dioxide increases the absorption of this medication and increases the concentration of ibuprofen in the blood. This means that if you mix these two you cannot control the dose and there is high risk your kidneys can get a lot of toxins from the pill.

Antidepressants

Antidepressants contain inhibitors of monoamine oxidase and you should not mix them with food that contains tyramine because this combination may increase the blood pressure. Tyramine is amino acid that is formed when protein foods age and it can be found in old cheese, meat, fish, sausages, and canned meat.
