Every one already knows that it is not healthy to eat after 7 p.m. And that is all good if we are able to go to sleep at 10 which are almost impossible for a lot of people.

Some of us often bring work home, some have kids and stay up late in the night to clean up after them and prepare the, for the next day. Some often stay to watch a movie or a game. And a lot of us get hungry and need to eat something to avoid sleepless night that hunger causes. Some people manage to cheat hunger with a glass of water but some can’t settle until they have something to eat.  But don’t worry: even though it is not healthy to eat after 7 pm, there are some things you can eat that will not harm your healthy lifestyle. So if you get hungry at midnight, don’t reach out for a sandwich or bag of crisps, here is a list of things that can serve as healthy midnight snacks.

Nuts

Nuts are healthy snacks packed with essential vitamins and minerals. Almost all of them are rich in magnesium which is beneficial for the brain and significantly improves the quality of sleep. You can have almonds, walnuts, peanuts, hazelnuts, or any other nuts of your choice, but you have to remember that you must not eat a lot of them because they are full of calories.

Low calorie cheese

Dairy products, especially cheese, are rich source of calcium. This mineral is very important for many vital functions in the body and one of them is quality sleep.  50 grams of low calorie cheese is a good choice for a midnight snack. You can also add a whole grain cracker to the cheese and you will get healthy snack that will soothe the hunger and help you sleep better. Some of the cheeses with low calories are mozzarella, parmesan, Swiss cheese or feta.

Oatmeal

Some milk with 2 tablespoons of oats is good healthy choice of a meal before you go to bed. Oatmeal contains carbohydrates, nutrients that can release secretion of the hormone of happiness-serotonin. This hormone has the ability to soothe the brain. Rich in fiber, oats can soothe the feeling of hunger and you will go to sleep calm and full.

Milk

A glass of warm milk is one of the most famous sleep elixirs. Milk contains tryptophan, amino acid that is very important for good and quality sleep. A glass of milk before you go to bed will soothe your hunger and also help you sleep better.

Cherry juice

According to scientific study 2 glasses of cherry juice a day can raise the level of melatonin, which is very important for good and quality sleep. Drink one glass in the morning and the other after you get hungry, late in the night. It will soothe the hunger, because cherries are a fruit with higher content of sugars.
