Itchy throat is often followed by mild but persistent dry cough. It is cough that is not productive, but is a result of virus infections. It is a feeling that you have something stuck in the back of your throat and it is constantly scratching it.

Dry cough can also occur as a result of allergens in a dusty surrounding. No matter the cause, it is important to find something to relive the situation and the first place to look in is your kitchen.

Honey
This one is the oldest used home remedy for this kind of cough. It is effective thanks to the analgesic properties that soothe the throat. It is also powerful antioxidant.  The best way to use it is with warm milk. This drink will also soothe the pain in the chest that can be a result of dry cough.

Turmeric
The active ingredient of turmeric, curcumin has antiviral, antibacterial, and anti inflammatory properties and it is perfect for all kinds of colds. Take a teaspoon of turmeric powder and mix it with a same amount of cumin seeds. Add them in boiling water and let it boil until it reduces to a half. Add some honey and drink 3 times a day. You can also add a little turmeric powder in warm milk; it will also help with dry cough.

Ginger
This plant is natural analgesic and can soothe the irritation and the tingling that is caused by sore throat. It also works anti-inflammatory and clears the respiratory system. Slice the ginger on thin slices or crush them and add them in water and boil for a while. Drink this 3 times a day. You can also chew slices of ginger that will also help with the dry cough.

Garlic

An active ingredient contained in garlic that is called alicin has anti microbe, anti bacterial and anti viral properties. It is probably one of the most effective natural remedies for dry cough. It also boosts the immune system and helps you to fight the infections that cause the cough. Add few cloves of garlic in a glass of boiling water and cook for a while. Add a teaspoon of oregano. When it cools down, sweeten it with some honey. Drink this twice a day.

Gargling with salty water
Salty water can reduce swelling and help with dry cough through the process of osmosis. You need to add a teaspoon of sea salt and 200 ml of warm water. Mix it all and take a sip and swish it around in your mouth and gargle. Then spit it out and then repeat once again. After the gargle wash the mouth with clean water.

Steam
Steam can dissolve the phlegm and improve your general condition. You can add few drops of essential oil in it to even achieve better results. You need a plate with water, few drops of eucalyptus and few drops of tea tree essential oil. Boil the water and add the essential oils. Then bend over the plate and cover the head with a towel. Breathe in the steam for 5-10 minutes.

 Marsh mallow tea
The tea is good against the pain, infections and inflammations. It also protects the mucous membrane from further damages that dry cough can cause.
Add 3 grams of marsh mallow root in 150 ml of warm water. Cover and let it stay for 40 minutes. Drink this tea three times a day.

Oregano
Oregano is good for expelling the phlegm. For dry cough you need to use special kind of oregano that is called marjoram. Boil some water and add some of this special kind of oregano. Strain and drink as a relief for dry cough.
