Swelling of the feet comes as a result of water retention in the body and is often present in people that spend big part of the day on their feet. It is characteristic during the summer season. Besides swelling, stiffness, and pain in the ankles and knees also occur. The mobility is decreased and there is constant feeling of hardness in the legs.

Generally it is not serious health condition, but in small number of cases it can be a consequence of serious health problems.

Causes of swollen feet
Main cause for swelling of the heat is tiredness, prolonged standing, walking or sitting with crossed legs. If you are pregnant, obese, if you use too much salt, during PMS Etc. Swollen feet can be also a sign of a heart, liver, kidney disease and varicose veins. It is important to go see a doctor if your feet are swollen for longer time, if you are overweight, pregnant, have changes on the skin and hardness in breathing.

Prevention
The most important thing to do to prevent water retention and swelling is to engage yourself in some physical activity like walking, stretching or exercise. You need to drink plenty of water and herbal teas and reduce use of salt. It is also not recommended to wear high heels, tight clothes because they can affect on the circulation and swelling.

CABBAGE WRAP FOR SWELLING

Cabbage leaves
Cabbage leaves wraps are very effective for reducing the swelling and expelling the excess liquid of the legs. Put few cabbage leaves in the fridge for a few minutes. Then wrap your feet in them and rest your feet for some time. You will soon feel a relief and the swelling will reduce.

Cabbage and horse radish wraps

Grate half head of cabbage and finely chop horse radish leaf. Mix it all together and put the mass on the feet. Then wrap around with a bandage. Let the wraps on the feet for an hour. Do this procedure 3 times a day. After you remove the wraps apply some olive oil on the feet and put on woolen socks.

Salty bath
Heat up 2-3 liters of water and add a handful of sea salt, a tablespoon of baking soda and a table spoon of mint or pine leaves. Soak your feet for 15 minutes and then rub them with a towel to improve the circulation.

Mix 100 grams each dried leaves and flowers of centaury and St. John’s worth. Put them in a pot and pour over 3 liters of water. Cook on low heat for 2 hours. Parsley tea
This is probably the best tea that will prevent swelling of the feet no mater what the reason is. To prepare the tea you should use fresh bright green leaves as well as stems and the roots. Tear off the leaves and roots by hand. Fill a ¼ of a cup with parsley. Put it in a bigger container. Pour a cup of boiling water over it. Let it stand for 5-7 minutes. Then strain the tea. It is allowed to add honey and lemon if you want to improve the taste.

Chamomile and Melissa bath
Pour a liter of boiling water over a mixture of teaspoon of chamomile and 2 tablespoons of Melissa. Cook for 5 minutes. Put a tablespoon of sea salt in a liter of warm water and mix until the salt dissolves. Then pout the tea in the salty water and sink your feet in. hold them in for half an hour and then wash with water and rub well with the towel.
