QUINCE-AUTUMN’S BEST MEDICINE

Quince is autumn’s best medicine, a true vitamin bomb that is used in folk medicine for a long period of time, mostly for easing cough and stomach ache. Quince’s fruit, leaves and seeds are used in folk medicine most of all the juice and syrup from the fruit.

The fruit is full with vitamins and minerals. It contains vitamin C in huge amounts, vitamin B1, B2, niacin, carotene, calcium, magnesium, potassium, copper, sodium, zinc, iron etc. Besides it contains proteins, fiber and carbon hydrates.

The seeds contain high amount of vitamin B17, which has anticancer effect. They are also rich with fats, tannin, pectin, etc. When you leave the seeds stay in water, they release mucus that helps with cough.

QUINCE-TEA

Thanks to the containment of pectin, this fruit has effect on the blood system, helps lowering the high blood pressure and protects from radiation.

Quince juice helps healing cough, asthma and diarrhea, and baked and cooked quince is recommended to people with anemia and also in digestive problems. Quince is used for healing of upper respiratory system, and with painful menstruations. Quince seeds tea heals insomnia and tension but also helps with bad breath. The mucus from the seeds helps with the burns and wounds. Tea from the quince leaves is great natural medicine for stopping diarrhea.

QUINCE TEA
Tea from quince fruit helps respiratory problems. This is how to prepare it: wash and clean and slice the fruit in four pieces. Remove the seeds and the hard part around them and then slice the remains in thin parts and put in a liter of water right away so they don’t change the color. Cook for 15 to 20 minutes and then cool down. Filtrate and drink in sips during all day.

BRONCHITIS SYRUP
This folk medicine is so easy to prepare. Crush five seeds of a quince and pour 100 ml of water over them. When it turns to mucus add 15 grams of fresh plantain juice and 100 grams of sage honey. You take 1 tea spoon before every meal.

JUICE FOR STOMACH PAINS

Digestion problems can be eliminated with fresh quince juice. Wash, clean and grate 1 kg of quince. Strain through cheesecloth and drink right away because it oxidizes very fast. Best way to drink it is before a meal.

CREAM FOR BURNS
Crush 10 grams of quince seeds and pour 200 ml of water over. When the seeds release the mucus you can apply it on the burn or as a compress.

Quince cheese: cook 2kg of quince until they are completely soft. Smash them and then add sugar (1,5kg of mash with 1kg of sugar). Cook it all for 45 minutes constantly stirring. Then put in molds and let it cold. Cut in cubes and cover in powder sugar and let it stay in dark and cold place.

YOU CAN USE QUINCE AS A SWEETENER, HERE IS HOW
Grind kilo of quince and filtrate the juice and then add 2 kilos of sugar and cook for a while. When cold pour in sterilized bottles.

LOTION FROM QUINCE SEEDS AGAINST WRINKLES
Finely chop 1 tea spoon of quince seeds and then crush them in mortar and pour 2 spoons of water over. Mix well and let rest for 10 minutes. Apply on chapped lips or wrinkles.

LOTION FROM QUINCE’S SKIN
200 grams of skin keep for 15 days in 300 ml in hard brandy. Filtrate and close well. Apply twice a day on the spots with wrinkles.
